Ecology & Evolution / Conservation / Science

I’m a trained field ecologist, focused on conservation, sustainable farming, science education, and science communication. I graduated with a B.S. & M.S. in Biology, with a Minor in Chemistry, from IISER Trivandrum, where I worked with Prof. Hema Somanathan and the BEE Lab. I took up field research in the western ghats (Bhimashankar) for an year, after which I pursued a Ph.D. at the TrEE Lab, under the supervision of Dr. Vinita Gowda, at IISER Bhopal. After my Ph.D., I founded the Saryan Vigyan Foundation to pursue fundamental scientific research and translate it into sustainable living in the Kinnaur district and Himachal Pradesh broadly. I enable frugal science as a Scientific Consultant to the Deep Tech Innovation Centre, Graphic Era University and SoftCircuits Labs.

I’m always interested in working with students and collaborators, especially tribals. Reach out to me if you’re interested in field ecology, conservation, natural farming, plant-animal (including human) interaction, eco-hydro-geology, and science communication, science education. Please see my research page for a detailed look at my work.

Currently, I’m establishing Saryan Vatika, a high altitude nature reserve (3100 m above mean sea level) to study and preserve endangered plant species. You could watch this short documentary featuring me and my work to get a better understanding of why I do what I do.
